Of the people, by the people, for the people

Today is the anniversary of Lincoln's delivery of the Gettysburg Address, in front of a crowd of 15,000 people (read about the story on Writer's Almanac or see the original documents on the Library of Congress site). President-elect Obama mentioned in his interview on 60 Minutes Sunday evening that he is currently reading Lincoln, and as he and his transition team continue to make important choices about his cabinet, this prayer bubbles up:

God, may this be a day of vision, clarity, and peace for President-elect Obama and all those gathering to help uncover the path through our current valley of challenge and difficulty. Continue to protect his vision and effort and bring those with hearts of service and minds prepared and open, receptive for the work ahead. Support him as he continues to appeal to the higher angels of our nature and leads us to believe in the potential of our good agency once again. Amen.
